Season Re-cap - CAD and code for Voyageur Team 4152 Robot

Deep Space is now complete - our season is done. It has been a phenomenal year and I'm very proud of the growth our team has shown. Here are some of the highlights.

Our preseason was great - over 60 students from four high schools attended our Robotics Training Camp at Camp Big Canoe. We started 10 FLL teams and ran our first FLL tournament in Huntsville.

During the season we focused our strategy - we didn't try to do it all. We made strategic choices (i.e. we decided to focus on hatch and cargo delivery and sacrifice the 3rd level hab climb). These were difficult choices but we are proud of the robot we built. In the Ontario Provincial Championships Science Division we were 8th in OPR. https://www.thebluealliance.com/event/2019oncmp1#event-insights

We were in the quarter finals in every event we attended: Durham, North Bay and Ontario Provincial Championship.

We won an award at every event we attended:

  • District Engineering Inspiration Award at Durham

  • Excellence in Engineering Award sponsored by Delphi at North Bay

  • Team Spirit Award sponsored by FCA Foundation at Ontario Provincial Championship Science Division

Our robot was consistent - we ended up with very little to do in our pit as things held together very well. Over the years we have focused on learning from our mistakes. Our pit checklist, battery monitoring, material selection, fabrication plans all incorporate lessons we have learned.

Thanks to all our team members, mentors, parents, sponsors and supporters - our team may be from a small town but we've had a big impact.

Keep paddling,

Ian McTavish, OCT

Don't forget the teachers!
